Learn handbuilding ceramic techniques (including slab making, coiling and pinch pots) as well as attaching handles, letters and light sculptural work in this 5 week term.
You will be fully guided by Andie (Handy Andie Ceramics) & Bee Dewar who will help you make whatever you'd like out of clay. Beginner to intermediate levels welcome.
Classes are structured but it is completely up to you if you want to follow them! If you already have an idea you'd like to bring to life, Andie & Bee will help you and give guidance.

Class Term:
Week 1 - Tuesday 28th July 2026 7pm to 9:30pm
- Andie will demonstrate how to make a plate/bowl using different techniques (slab & mould) for beginners.
- Demonstration of how to make a wall vase/sconce (for beginners and advanced) and how to stamp/indent letters and cutouts.
- Students get to create their own work in any of the techniques shown or work on their own ideas.
Week 2 - Tuesday 4th August 2026 7pm to 9:30pm
- Andie will demonstrate various sculptural techniques (carving and solid sculpting) to make ring holders and trinket dishes.
- Demonstration of how to make large vase (using envelope technique).
- Students get to create their own sculptures or work on their own ideas.
Week 3 - Tuesday 11th August 2026 7pm to 9:30pm
- Andie will demonstrate how to make a mug using 2 different techniques (slab & pinch pot) and show how to attach letters and a handle (for beginners).
- Demonstration of more advanced handle making (for beginners and advanced).
- Students get to create their own mugs/cups in any of the techniques shown.
Week 4 - Tuesday 18th August 2026 7pm to 9:30pm
- Students will receive finished pieces back from the bisque firing to glaze.
- Demonstration on using underglaze and glazes (for beginners).
- Demonstration on resist glazing using wax & stickers (for beginners and advanced).
- Students get access to Andie’s large glaze collection, with lots of different colours and finishes.
- Last week to begin any new work.
Week 5- Tuesday 25th August 2026 - 7pm to 9:30pm
- Students will receive all their finished pieces back from the bisque firing
- Students get access to Andie’s large glaze collection, with lots of different colours and finishes
- Students continue glazing their bisqued pieces.

What you can expect:
- 2.5 hours per class
- All materials and tools supplied
- 5 kilos of midfire clay - more available for a fee
- All bisque and glaze firings in a kiln (for up to 5 kgs of work)
- Your items will be available for pickup from Vacant Assembly in around 3/4 weeks (or can be posted to you for a fee).
