Handmade for the girls, gays, and theys. – Meet Andie, the Maker Behind Handy Andie Ceramics

Handy Andie Ceramics was born from my desire to create fun, functional art that reflects my inner world. What started as a hobby – making gifts and small sculptures for friends and family – has become a small-batch ceramics business that I run from my home studio in Meanjin ( so-called ‘Brisbane’, Australia). My ceramics are more than just functional items; they are pieces of art meant to bring joy and connection to everyday life.

For me, ceramics has always been a refuge when life gets chaotic. Through chronic illness and mental health challenges, ceramics has given me a creative outlet to express myself. It’s a practice that grounds me and allows me to connect with others, even when reality feels bleak. My art celebrates colour, queerness, and joy – the small sparks of happiness that I want to share with the world.

Our Mission: Celebrate being queer every day in any way.

At Handy Andie Ceramics, my goal is simple – to create ceramics that celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community and bring joy to people’s daily routines. Every piece is handmade with care, using techniques like marbling, exposed textures, and playful glazing. I take pride in making each item a little quirky, a little whimsical, and totally unique.

Sustainability: I’m committed to minimizing waste in my ceramics practice. I reclaim and reuse clay, and ceramics with small flaws are sold as discounted seconds rather than being discarded.

Community: My ceramics are made with the LGBTQIA+ community in mind. I strive to create pieces that reflect and celebrate queer experiences.

Creativity: Every piece is handmade by me, meaning each ceramic item is one-of-a-kind, with its own story to tell.
